The core ideas that make Flax different from a drag-and-drop website builder.

Overview

  • Flax sites are built from sections. You compose a page by choosing sections, arranging them, and styling them, not by assembling low-level blocks or components.
  • Content and design are separate. The CMS stores raw text, images, videos, icons, and records; templates decide how that content appears on the site.
  • Most pages are generated for you. Add the right content, publish, and Flax creates the public pages and navigation patterns those content types need.
  • Performance and search are built in. Flax optimizes images, outputs lean pages, deploys close to visitors, and adds structured data that helps search engines and AI understand the site.

Sections Are The Building Blocks

A section is the smallest unit of composition in Flax. There is no smaller public building block such as a block or component. Instead of asking you to design every layout from scratch, Flax provides a library of sections for common site needs: headers, services, products, menus, reviews, galleries, FAQs, CTAs, team profiles, locations, policies, and more.

Different sections are built for different kinds of content. Some are image-led, some work best with short text, and others are designed for repeated items such as services or reviews. Most sections can be rearranged into different configurations, and many support one or two buttons for the most important next actions.

Global Branding Sets The Site Style

Flax gives you a global Branding panel for shaping the whole site, not just one section at a time. In Design, you can choose from libraries of color palettes, typography, buttons, panels, labels, navigation, inputs, tabs, lists, icons, image treatments, and page styles. You can also start from brand colors or drop in an image to generate palette options.

These choices become the visual system for the site. Sections still have their own templates and layout options, but global branding keeps everything feeling like one website. The result is a unique style built from high-quality options instead of pixel-by-pixel editing.

The CMS Stores Raw Content

Flax externalizes raw content into a Content Management System, or CMS. Think of the CMS as the site database: it stores business information, text, images, videos, icons, services, products, events, reviews, locations, policies, and other records. It does not decide how those records should look on the page.

That separation is what makes updates manageable. You can add a new service, publish a review, update a menu item, change a phone number, or upload images without redesigning the page. After publishing, templates that use that content update automatically.

Generated Pages Do The Heavy Lifting

You design and style the homepage, then Flax uses the CMS to generate the supporting pages the site needs. Add services and a services page can appear. Add reviews and review pages can be created. Add locations, articles, events, products, FAQs, or policy pages, and Flax can create the matching public pages from that content.

This means you usually do not need to manually add pages or fight with complex navigation. Some generated page types also let you choose a page template in the editor, so repeated pages can share a consistent design without being edited one by one.

Flax Optimizes The Site For You

When images are published, Flax creates five optimized WebP sizes and serves an appropriate version for the page. Pages are compiled into lean HTML, and sites are deployed close to visitors for fast loading.

Flax also adds structured data to pages so search engines and AI systems can understand the business, services, products, events, reviews, and locations more precisely. Publishing workflows also handle the site files search engines expect, such as sitemaps, IndexNow verification, and related metadata.
